In May of 2014, author Nick Givechi found his life thrust into tumultuous upheaval when rather fortunate financial stability was stripped from him in a matter of days. Following loss of job, car, home, and several devastating bills— he found himself on the street and being treated like an ostracized leech of society. Who he had been only weeks before didn’t matter after only a few days of homelessness became visible on his exterior. This poem was written after trespassing onto a construction site for shelter, one month into being treated based on his image.
