About
Join us to celebrate independent filmmaking during a five-day extravaganza called Kansas City FilmFest.
It’s a festival of many things and we invite you to experience them all.
It’s a competition
At the heart of the festival is a lively competition for independent filmmakers. Since last June, local filmmakers along from others around the country and throughout the world have submitted more than 400 short films, documentaries, features and experimental films. One hundred of the films will be screened during the festival. And industry professionals will judge the films, select the best and celebrate the winners.
It’s about great movies
In addition to our competition films, we’ve scoured the globe to find great new films that haven’t yet made it to Kansas City. Some of these are being shown at other festivals. Others are foreign films from a number of countries.
It’s about movies and their makers
Kansas City FilmFest is a unique opportunity to meet and interact with the people behind the camera. Filmmakers often come to the festival with their films and speak to the audience after screenings. You’re invited to ask questions, learn about their process, their thinking and their inspirations. Join us at afterhours events to hobnob with the people behind the lens.
It’s educational
For 14 years, Kansas City FilmFest has maintained a deep commitment to help regional filmmakers improve in their craft. Seminars, workshops and panels are an important component of each festival. This year we again present educational experiences for filmmakers, media crew members and others in the industry.
It’s fun
Great movies, interesting people, parties and opportunities to learn. Lots of people travel to Sundance, Toronto, Austin and New York for experiences like these. All you need to do is drive to downtown Kansas City.
Join us.
Whether you’re part of the audience, a volunteer or a filmmaker, we look forward to seeing you at Kansas City FilmFest.
