Through revised translations of Sappho’s poetry and lyrics, “My Sappho” tells the love story between Sappho and Erinna around the 6th century BCE on Lesbos. It is stop-animated using flowers and cutouts of Greek art. Sappho longs for Erinna from afar, comparing her to the stars, until she can hide her feelings no more and serenades her. They share their first night together. Stormy skies rumble closer, however, as we learn of Erinna’s arranged engagement to a man she’s never met. They mourn their lost love but treasure their stolen moments together. Sappho comforts herself that, one day, their story would be remembered and revered.
