Amaterasu is based on a traditional Japanese story of the sun goddess and her volatile relationship with her brother, Susanowo. The film was shot entirely with marionettes and sets made of found objects, and takes the viewer into an unknown world of strangely beautiful landscapes and horses made of baubles and bells.
