Tommy (1975)

At 5am on Sunday, August 17th, The Who took the stage at Woodstock and played their rock opera “Tommy”, the story of a deaf, mute, and blind boy who becomes a master pinball player and cult figurehead. Their performance became one of the highlights of the music festival and the band went on to make this movie version of that album. The Who’s Roger Daltrey portrays Tommy, and he’s joined by his bandmates and other music legends like Elton John, Tina Turner, and Eric Clapton.

Central Cinema Nights is a movie screening in the Central Library’s Durwood Film Vault taking place Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Join us as we watch and discuss documentaries and feature films in a socially conscious setting, chosen to fit a monthly theme. This month’s theme: Woodstock Turns 50! In celebration of Woodstock’s 50th anniversary, we are traveling back to 1969 and showcasing three movies connected to the famous concert, followed by the 1970 documentary about the event itself.
