In the Heat of the Night (1967, NR)

February 19 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm CST

Born in Miami in February 1927 to Bahamian parents, Sir Sidney Poitier has played many roles: performer, director, businessman, diplomat, recipient of both a Knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Join us in the Durwood Film Vault this month as we celebrate Black History Month by recognizing this powerful, iconic presence of American cinema. In four selections from his prolific career, we see Poitier running and hunting on both sides of the law, winning an Oscar building a chapel in the desert, and finally stepping behind the camera to grapple with the Western film tradition in his directorial debut Buck and the Preacher.

Central Cinema Nights is a weekly Wednesday film series with a different theme each month.
