Deep Cuts and B-Sides: Awakenings
April 17, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm CDT

Awakenings is a 1990 American drama based on Oliver Sacks’ 1973 memoir of the same title. It tells the story of Malcolm Sayer, who, in 1969, discovers beneficial effects of the drug L-Dopa. Leonard Lowe and the rest of the patients are awakened after decades and must deal with a new life in a new time.
Central Cinema Nights is a movie screening in the Central Library’s Durwood Film Vault taking place Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. Join us as we watch and discuss documentaries and feature films in a socially conscious setting, chosen to fit a monthly theme. This month’s theme: Deep Cuts and B-Sides.
Our April films may not be the most well-known of our selected directors, but they all showcase a slightly different vision from the acclaimed filmmakers. From stunning to silly, all these movies are from our Kanopy collection, accessible online with your Kansas City Public Library card.
Everyone is welcome! Movie screenings at the Central Library are always FREE and open to the public.
